31 years of a pub/bar in Brittany gone up in smoke. Here are photographic mementoes of a socio-cultural icon, the continuation of a bridge between BreizhBrittany & Cymru/Wales, a Brythonic link, with Kernow/Cornwall in the middle that goes back continuously for more than 1600 years. The pub/bar will eventually rise out of the ashes, but in the meantime I now have opportunities to go out visiting, observing and capturing in photographic form pieces of Breton heritage that I call Byn's bits of Brittany: there you are: a pub; religious establishments, mainly chapels, interesting because they encompass both history & art; waterways & bridges, mainly rivers, but also streams and a long arterial canal built by Napoleon Boneparte with its ingenious linking of the rivers with each handing on the baton in succession, running all the way from Nantes to Brest; each chapel had its holy well some of which are marvels to behold, some have disappeared and others need half a day to be discovered hidden among the weeds and thorns; the many megalithic standing stones that proliferate throughout Brittany in their different forms; wells that are only now being blocked up; each hamlet had its communal bread-oven and communal pool for the washing of clothes, only the ovens are on their way back; some fauna but mainly flora of Springtime 2010. I have also included sheets of Breton popular music, including 'Bro Goz(h) ma Z(h)adou', originally 'Mae Hên Wlâd fy Nhâdau', the Welsh National Anthem, which was brought back to Brittany around 1900 by an inspired Taldir Jaffrennou after a visit to the Celtic Congress at Cardiff, translated into Breton and subsequently adopted as the Breton Hymn. The pub burnt down in February earlier this year 2010 and as I'm self-employed I don't qualify for, what I call 'the dole', therefore I am putting all these photos on the market so that I can earn my living until I take back my former employment in 2012. You can suggest anything, but at the moment the form they take is predominately A4 plastic laminated for protection, on the internet at 10 euros to cover VAT & postage, or 15€ under glass. They are also literally on a market stall every thursday morning at Uhelgoad/Huelgoat, Saturdays at Montroulez/Morlaix, occasionally mondays & tuesdays at Gwirliskin & Rostrenn/Rostrenen respectively (when my car is insured & running, petrol allowing, and not raining too hard). Contact by e-mail: bynwalters@libertysurf.fr. Payment can be made directly through Paypal, by e-mail through Paypal, or by cheque to: 5 rue des primevères, 29690 Plouye, Bretagne, or more directly at the market stall.

Normalement si tout va bien je vais retourner au bar au printemps/If all goes well I'll be back behind the bar of 'Ty Elise/Chez Byn' in the spring, giving me an objective and bringing a bit of certainty back into my life.
